Department of Mathematics Universitas Airlangga successfully held a webinar with the theme “Job Prospects for Mathematics, Statistics, and Information Systems Alumni in Facing the Era of Disruption”. This webinar was held via Zoom and YouTube live on Saturday, November 14, 2020, and is one of a series of events commemorating the 66th Anniversary of Universitas Airlangga.
“We hope that with this activity, with 6 alumni, we can share experiences, what the world of work is like and the experiences faced today,” said Vice Dean III FST Unair Dr. Fatmawati, M.Si. in her remarks. In line with Dr. Fatmawati, Head of the Department of Mathematics FST Unair Dr. Herry Suprajitno M.Si., advised that this pandemic should not be seen as a disaster, but also as a time to improve.
A total of 6 alumni were invited to be speakers in this webinar. In the first session, there were 3 speakers who shared their experiences, namely Bayu Aldi Yansyah (Mathematics 2013) who presented the material “Guide to Starting a Career in Data Science”, Ade Firman Triangga (SI 2010) who presented the material “Skill Development in The Age of Disruption: Challenges and Opportunities”, and Umi Tri Ruhana (Statistics 2012) who presented the material ”Job Prospects for Mathematics Department Graduates.

Furthermore, in the second session there were 3 speakers, namely Fairuzzuddin Zuhair (Mathematics 2014) who presented the material “The Entrepreneur is A Mathematician”, A. Deliar (SI 2016) with the material “How to Find A Job During Pandemic”, and Mahenda Abdillah (Statistics 2012) with the material “Job Prospects for Mathematics, Statistics, and SI Alumni in the Disruption Era”. At the end of each session there was a question and answer session. It can be seen that the webinar participants were very enthusiastic, as evidenced by the active question and answer session and the many questions asked.

The Vice Dean III of FST Unair advised that students of the Mathematics Department must be responsive and adapt in an era like this. It is hoped that this webinar will be able to provide an overview of the world of work to the around 300 students who attended.
