On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the Mathematics Study Program of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) conducted a visit to SD Alam Muhammadiyah Kedanyang (SD Almadany) in Gresik. This visit was in response to a collaborative request from Almadany Elementary School concerning the enhancement of Mathematics learning within their institution. The UNAIR Mathematics Study Program was represented by a team of five lecturers. Present at the event were the Principal, Chair, and Secretary of the PP Muhammadiyah Elementary and Elementary Education Council, along with the teaching staff of Almadany Elementary School.

The commencement of the day’s activities was marked by an opening address from the Principal of Almadany Elementary School, Nur Aini, S.Pd. She expressed her optimistic outlook, hoping that the UNAIR Mathematics Study Program team could offer valuable insights and recommendations for the improvement of Mathematics learning at their school. Subsequently, Ust. Hilmi Aziz, the Chairman of the PP Basic Education Council, Muhammadiyah, delivered additional remarks.

During the course of the event, the UNAIR Mathematics Study Program team engaged in discussions with the teacher council of Almadany Elementary School, focusing on the conceptualization of upcoming mentoring activities. The discourse encompassed an examination of the current Mathematics learning model implemented at Almadany Elementary School, identified challenges, and outlined the expectations of the teacher council for future mentoring initiatives.

To illustrate the current state of Mathematics learning, a presentation was delivered specifically targeting class 1. In response, Abdulloh Jaelani, M.Si., provided constructive feedback, stating, “The implemented learning concept appears to be partial; it necessitates integration with related material to ensure that students retain the acquired knowledge.” Auli Damayanti, M.Si., supplemented the discussion by emphasizing the importance of designing worksheets with consideration for the distribution of student abilities.
