To fulfill the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in community service, the Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga (FST UNAIR), organized mathematics olympiad coaching for students of SMA Assa’adah in Bungah, Gresik. This event, conducted on Thursday, October 6, 2022, attracted 20 participants from Class XI.

The coaching session consisted of two segments: a material presentation and a discussion session. During the first session, Muchammad Yusuf Syaifuddin, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer in the Mathematics Undergraduate Program at FST UNAIR specializing in Analysis, elucidated the Inclusive-Exclusive Principle by demonstrating several theorems and example questions relevant to the topic.

Subsequently, the second session involved a discussion guided by three lecturers Muchammad Yusuf Syaifuddin, S.Si., M.Si.; Muhammadun, S.Si., M.Si.; and Bustomi, S.Si., M.Si. Participants were presented with several practice questions, which were then collaboratively discussed.

The presenters ensured clarity in their explanations to facilitate the participants’ comprehension of the material. Overall, this Olympiad coaching activity proceeded smoothly and interactively, with engaging discussions between the presenters and participants. It is envisioned that such endeavours will continue as a testament to the FST UNAIR Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program’s commitment to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by enhancing students’ proficiency in the Olympiad domain, particularly in schools in Surabaya, Gresik, and the surrounding areas.
