The Covid-19 pandemic has a major impact on various community life activities carried out in large groups. Coronavirus as the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic is able to spread very quickly and among others through physical contact with infected people. Education is one of the community activities that has a considerable impact. This virus outbreak hampers teaching and learning activities that usually take place face-to-face. One of the activities that is currently a weakness is teaching and learning activities at schools, universities, and even other learning activity agencies, which causes it to be carried out online. However, not all of the above parties are able to carry out these activities due to media or connection constraints. Thus, we from the Department of Mathematics UNAIR (Universitas Airlangga) conducted a workshop regarding this matter in one of the cities in Jember, East Java.
Through PENGMAS (Community Service) program, the Department of Mathematics UNAIR introduced LMS (Learning Management System) through a workshop at SMP Negeri 2 Tanggul-Jember.
This activity is in collaboration with the Jember Regency Education Office and MGMP (Subject Teacher Conference) Jember Regency. The PENGMAS participants were representatives from several schools in Jember Regency. The LMS that we introduce is teaching and learning activities through one of the online networks, namely Moodle. The series of activities that we do include, how to install the Moodle device, how to operate Moodle, and further consultation / questions about the LMS.
The installation of the Moodle tool is done online using one of the social media groups. Next, we provided the applications that needed to be prepared, and continued with a tutorial on installing the application on each participant’s laptop.
After the installation of the Moodle device, we followed up with a face-to-face socialization (according to protocol) at SMP N 2 TANGGUL, Jember Regency. There we taught the operation of Moodle itself, including creating an admin user, adding other users (teachers, students, etc.), adding courses/lessons, and other management such as online attendance, assignments, ppt and video materials, including online exams.
As for the last stage of this PENGMAS activity, participants can conduct further consultation regarding the LMS with the tutor (PENGMAS Committee Team) which will be carried out online.
