The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at Universitas Airlangga organized The 8th International Conference and Workshop on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICOWOBAS), held from August 23-26, 2021. This biennial event is a collaborative effort among the departments within FST, including the Department of Mathematics, Department of Biology, Department of Chemistry, and Department of Physics. As its name suggests, the event is divided into two main parts: a workshop and a conference. The workshop sessions are segmented according to the respective departments within FST.
The Department of Mathematics contributed to this event by hosting a workshop titled “Statistical Modelling and Its Implementation Towards Sustainable Development Goals.” This topic highlights Universitas Airlangga’s, and particularly the Department of Mathematics’, commitment to supporting sustainable development goals through the application of statistical sciences, which are an integral part of mathematics. The Department aimed to provide workshop participants with new insights and skills to contribute to the development of Indonesia.
The workshop was divided into two sessions, held on August 23 and 24, 2021. The first session, themed “Non-Parametric and Semiparametric Regression Modelling,” featured three speakers from both within and outside UNAIR: Dr. Nur Chamidah and M. Fariz Fadillah Mardianto, M.Si. from UNAIR, and Prof. Dursun Aydin from Mugla University, Turkey. The second day focused on “Introduction, Interpretation, and Discussion of PLS SEM using SmartPLS,” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noorminshah A. Lahad from Azman Hashim International Business School, UTM, Malaysia. Participants included students, lecturers, researchers, and others. In addition to valuable insights from the speakers, attendees received software relevant to the workshop topics, complete with installation procedures, copies of the workshop materials, and mentoring throughout the workshop.
The workshop, conducted online via Zoom, proceeded smoothly and was moderated by Sa’idah Zahrotul Jannah, S.Si., M.Stat., and Siti Maghfirotul Ulyah, S.Si., M.Si., lecturers in the Statistics Program, Department of Mathematics, FST UNAIR. This workshop also marked the official opening of the ICOWOBAS event, which would continue with the conference the following day.
