Socialization and promotion activities for the Mathematics Study Program for SMA, MA, and SMK students were organized in the Bungah sub-district of Gresik by the Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Airlangga University (FST UNAIR). On Thursday, October 6, 2022, this activity was organized at the Foundation Hall of the Qomaruddin Islamic Boarding School. In an attempt to inspire recent high school graduates to enroll in the UNAIR Mathematics Study Program, this activity aims to highlight the fascinating aspects of mathematics.
The socialization was attended by 161 participants from several SMA/MA/SMK, including SMA Assa’adah, MA Assa’adah, SMK Assa’adah, MAN 1 Gresik, SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Gresik, and SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Gresik. The socialization was opened by Hj. Muslihah, M.Sc., as Principal of ASSA’ADAH Bungah Gresik High School. The event continued with a presentation on socialization and promotion by Dr. Miswanto, M.Sc. and Siti Zahidah, S.Si., M.Si, lecturer at the Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program, FST UNAIR.
On this occasion, the two speakers explained the job prospects for Mathematics Study Program graduates as well as the achievements of the Study Program which were realized in various programs, both through Teaching and Learning Activities (KBM), student activities, and alumni achievements.
“First, show our Vision and Mission. “To know something, you must first know its vision and mission.” Second, the lecturers were introduced, we also have a professor, namely Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, S.Si., M.Si.. The third introduced the activities in the UNAIR mathematics study program. Therefore, it is necessary to hold this socialization activity. So that people know that this mathematics study program is very good. “The activities are also known throughout the world,” said Dr. Miswanto, M.Sc.
Dr. Miswanto, M.Sc., explained to the participants why they should choose the Mathematics Study Program at FST UNAIR. Because the FST UNAIR Mathematics Study Program has been accredited SUPERIOR by BAN-PT and internationally accredited by ASIIN. This cannot be separated from the support and hard work of teaching staff who are experienced in their fields.
“The hope is that the surrounding community will know about it. I want to introduce you more closely, especially East Java and all the surrounding communities. We also have many alumni, including those from MA ASSA’ADAH, who are now lecturers. We want to expand and introduce this Bachelor of Mathematics program to the public. We also have students from outside Java, such as from Medan. “As long as we can still visit the location, we hope that more students will be interested in this undergraduate mathematics study program,” added Dr. Miswanto, M.Sc.
Meanwhile, one of the socialization participants, Nur Amelia Fitri from MA Ma’arif NU Assa’adah admitted that she was interested in the event because she wanted to increase her knowledge and experience.
“I feel very happy because I have gained a lot of knowledge as well as knowledge and experience,” he said.
This activity, which was held interactively with ice breaking interludes, received a positive response from the participants. This was proven by the enthusiasm of the participants in participating in the activity from start to finish.
Present at the socialization event were the activity coordinator, Muhammadun, S.Sc., M.Sc., and several other teams of lecturers from the UNAIR FST Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program.
