Analysis is one of the fields of Pure Mathematics. From this field, various fundamental mathematical concepts are derived and later utilized in other disciplines. A solid understanding of the fundamentals of Analysis is essential for Mathematics students. However, the abstract nature of Analysis, which requires deep logical thinking and analysis, makes it a less popular choice among students for their final research projects. Nowadays, students tend to be more interested in applied mathematics, which can be directly used to solve real-world problems.
Dr. Eridani is one of the three lecturers in the Mathematics Study Program at UNAIR who specializes in Mathematical Analysis. Besides being active in research, he is often invited as a speaker at guest lectures both within and outside of UNAIR. One such invitation was for a guest lecture held by the Mathematics Department of Universitas Brawijaya on Saturday, September 25, 2021. The event, titled “2021 Analysis Guest Lecture: Morrey Space,” lasted for two hours starting at 08:30 AM WIB. Dr. Eridani presented the topic of the Hardy Operator to the attending students and lecturers.
Dr. Eridani’s material began with the definition and elementary properties of the Hardy operator. He then guided participants through proving the limitations of the Hardy operator. His brief explanation of the Hardy operator sparked questions from participants eager to understand more about the concept of operators themselves. He answered by illustrating the basics of vector operations and vector spaces in elementary linear algebra, leading to the emergence of linear operators mapping vector spaces to vector spaces. He expanded this explanation with various mapping examples to demonstrate how operators work. Beyond questions about operators, several other inquiries led to discussions about potential research topics in the field of Analysis.
The guest lecture, attended by more than two hundred participants, aimed to spark student interest in the field of Analysis. Additionally, it hoped to strengthen the collaboration between the Mathematics Study Program at UNAIR and the Mathematics Department of Universitas Brawijaya, contributing together to the development of the field of Analysis.
