The UNAIR Mathematics Study Program invited speakers from Ghana, including Prof. Ebeneizer Bonyah, to give a guest lecture on mathematical modeling with the goal of fostering greater international collaboration. Prof. Bonyah attended the UNAIR Mathematics Study Program virtually for the second time thanks to this possibility. He also participated in a webinar on the same subject in 2021 as a resource alongside Dr. Windarto, a lecturer at the UNAIR Mathematics Study Program.
About fifty UNAIR Bachelor of Mathematics and Doctorate in Mathematics and Natural Sciences students participated in the activity on Thursday, September 15, 2022. A number of the mathematics department lecturers who were interested in mathematical modeling also attended this session.
Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, M.Sc., the deputy dean of UNAIR’s 3 Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), gave the opening comments for the occasion. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who came and helped make this event a success in his address. He also hopes that everything will go according to plan to the very finish.

Nashrul Millah served as the event’s host, and M. Sisel served as moderator. Owing to intermittent network connectivity, Prof. Bonyah was presented as a recording that all attendees could view on the zoom screen. Prof. Bonyah’s main point in the content is that teachers have the power to alter their students’ attitudes toward learning mathematics. “Mathematical modeling is the best solution to change Mathematics from abstract to become clear.” Additionally, he included a method for developing a model by using and altering an already-existing model, “Just select any model from a few publications if you want to create a model of everyday situations. After then, alter or rebuild them in light of your specific issue.
Following the material presentation, there was a discussion period during which Prof. Bonyah immediately responded. The plethora of questions the participants got was indicative of their eagerness. The moderator ended the session after the conversation had been going on for around twenty minutes.
